Opera from a Sistah’s Point of View
Angela Brown
Portland SummerFest is broadening its mission by engaging renowned soprano, Angela Brown, who thrilled patrons summer 2018 in the title role of Tosca, to perform at the Martin Luther King Day Celebration and a free operatic program in addition to special performances for Roosevelt and Franklin high school clusters.
International opera star Angela Brown is a trailblazer on a mission to bring opera to everyone. Her witty and inspired solo show Opera from a Sistah’s Point of View dispels the common myths of opera from her own sassy perspective. Audiences of all ages and experience will laugh as she unravels convoluted plots, unafraid to make fun of opera’s over-the-top situations, and breaks down stereotypes to help people enjoy opera from a completely different approach. Filled with show-stopping arias, poignant art songs, and moving spirituals, she lifts audiences to their feet, opening hearts and ears to the beauty and imagination of opera, all from a sistah’s point of view.
